Envirogen Shares Expertise in Biological Treatment of Selenium in Wastewater
Dr. Paul Togna, VP of Power Market for Envirogen Technologies, Inc, made an in-depth technical presentation titled “Innovations in FBR Flowsheet and Design from Kinetic Analysis and Media Fluidization Testing” at the Selenium Summit 2019, sponsored by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in Charlotte, NC on Sept 10-11, 2019.
Envirogen Technologies, already recognized as an industry leader in applying biological technology to treat selenium in mining wastewater, presented on the most recent research and learnings around selenium treatment. Specifically, Dr. Togna detailed how Envirogen has modeled real-world data gathered from Envirogen’s pilot and full-scale Fluidized Bed Reactor (FBR) sites to predict performance of these biological systems across a broad range of influent streams. The modeling even allows full size system design without prior piloting. This effort has led to innovations in flowsheet and process design that have significantly reduced cost and increased performance.
Based on Envirogen’s proven FBR technology, the research furthers Envirogen’s position as expert in the treatment of selenium and demonstrates how power plants can benefit from applying the FBR for selenium reduction in Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) waste streams.
The Selenium Summit 2019, an invitation only event, was EPRI’s second conference solely devoted to the topic of selenium and was intended to link thought leaders in a forum to allow knowledge sharing and further innovation. The carefully selected attendees, including technology providers, consultants, industry groups, and end users, deliberated on a range of topics from analytical challenges to case studies.
